Toolroom / Shipping & Receiving

 

Type: Full-time   |   Hours: 40 hrs/week (overtime as required with 30 minutes unpaid lunchbreak)

Job Summary
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to manage our Toolroom and Shipping & Receiving operations. This dual-purpose role is critical to maintaining the flow of production by ensuring all tools, dies, and fixtures are maintained, tracked, and ready for use. Additionally, this position oversees the accurate receipt of incoming materials and the sourcing of necessary consumables to keep our shipyard operating at peak efficiency. The ideal candidate will combine technical knowledge of marine tools with rigorous organizational skills and a commitment to safety compliance.

Essential Functions

Toolroom Management & Inventory Control

  • Oversee the daily operations of the tool room, focusing on the maintenance, repair, and organization of tools, dies, and fixtures.
  • Manage the systematic check-in and check-out process for staff, maintaining precise records of usage and tracking any lost or damaged equipment.
  • Maintain “min/max” inventory levels for all tools and consumables to ensure immediate availability for production schedules.
  • Improve efficiency in tool storage and accessibility to minimize downtime for shipyard crews.
  • Maintain the overall upkeep, organization, and cleanliness of the tool room and receiving areas.

Shipping, Receiving & Vendor Relations

  • Safely remove items from transport vehicles and perform thorough inspections for visible damage.
  • Verify deliveries by matching items against packing lists and original Purchase Orders (PO), confirming SKU numbers and quantities.
  • Document all discrepancies, including damages, shortages, or overages, on the Bill of Lading (BOL) or receiving reports with photographic evidence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to improve reliability and reduce lead times.

Procurement & Coordination

  • Safely remove items from transport vehicles and perform thorough inspections for visible damage.
  • Source additional tools or specialized services from external vendors as needed.
  • Generate and manage Purchase Orders (POs) for vendors to ensure a steady supply of materials.
  • Coordinate with supervisors to identify and fulfill their specific supply needs for upcoming projects.
  • Arrange for specialized external repairs, such as welding, porta-powers, and mag drills, when in-house maintenance is not sufficient.

Documentation & Computer Operations

  • Use computer systems to track inventory, generate reports, and process procurement documentation accurately.
  • Create and upkeep digitized records of orders, PO numbers, tool maintenance logs, safety checks, receiving reports, and other critical documents.

Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions

  • Frequent walking and standing on uneven or wet surfaces while receiving shipments.
  • Lifting and handling heavy tools and equipment (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
  • Bending, reaching, and crouching to access inventory or inspect incoming goods.
  • Work is performed in outdoor conditions with regular exposure to the elements, including extreme heat, rain, and cold.
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, and water spray typical of a shipyard environment.

Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office/Excel and basic inventory systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Technical knowledge of tool maintenance and shipyard equipment.

Transportation:

It is the responsibility of each individual to provide or arrange his or her own transportation to and from the shipyard.

All Workers Are Required to Wear Safety Equipment:

If duty is being performed during normal operating hours the following PPE will be worn on the yard. Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Ear Plugs, and Safety Toed Shoes. Respirators And Fall Protection is to be worn when working in areas that require additional protection.

Standard Practice for Patti Marine:

Employees are often required to perform other jobs beyond the essential functions of their primary job. These jobs could consist of, but not be limited to, assisting other employees in the cleaning and picking up of debris from other areas where work is performed, partnering with employees to complete work with more stringent deadlines. Filling in temporarily for an absent employee.

Shipfitter
Type: Full-time   |   Hours: 40 hrs/week (overtime as required with 30 minutes unpaid lunchbreak)

Job Summary

Skilled tradesmen who performs the work of developing and laying out, fitting, bolting up, assembling and erecting plate, shapes, and pipe when used to form a part of a structural assembly in connection with ship construction, alteration, and repair specified by blueprints, work orders, or instructions from supervisor or management. The shipfitter is responsible for building and/or repairing the complete hull of a metal ship. The fitter has the primary responsibility for maintaining its watertight integrity. The shipfitter also manufactures and installs interior and exterior weldments such as: Bulwarks, Coamings, Doors, Foundations, Gratings, Hawse Pipes, Ladders, Mast, Bulkheads, King Post, Racks, Railing, Sea Chest, Stanchions, Stowages, Tanks, Trunks, Yardarms, and Hull Zincs.

The shipfitter repairs and/or removes damage ship structures and fittings, prepares surfaces for welding, burning, riveting and lays out holes for drilling. This work is accomplished using miscellaneous hand and power tools. The shipfitter may also be required to perform as a roll operator, punch operator, shear operator, track burner, drill and saw operator. The shipfitter may also have to arrange for staging, crane service, ventilation, lighting, and support services (air, electricity, and water).

Essential Functions

I: Determines the position of structural components using blueprints or templates. Locates precut and labeled structural members and marks reference lines such as center and frame lines.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing while reviewing blueprints and drawings
  • Occasional walking to locate components
  • Occasional lifting (nothing over 50 lbs without assistance)
  • Light physical strain; primarily planning and layout work

II: Locates parts as specified by blueprints. Most components are precut and ready for fitting and assembly.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing and walking
  • Frequent bending, squatting, reaching, pulling, and pushing
  • Occasional lifting of 30–40 lbs

III: Fits metal parts into the vessel or module to precise specifications. Aligns components for tack welding. Inspects tools before use. Work may occur in confined spaces or at elevated heights.

Tools Used:

  • Hammers, screwdrivers, wedges, torches, clips, shims
  • Measurement tools such as level, square, and tape measure

Work Conditions:

  • Confined or enclosed spaces (openings 18″–24″)
  • Elevated heights
  • Restricted access areas

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally (use assistance above that)
  • Frequent bending, walking, standing, and handling
  • Kneeling, crawling, crouching, stooping, and climbing
  • Ability to access tight spaces and elevated areas

Transportation

Employees are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the shipyard.

Take Appropriate Safety Measures

When working from heights or around edges, employees must ensure sufficient railings are in place to prevent falls. Rails must surround all deck openings according to OSHA regulations and Patti Marine policies.

Additional Safety Responsibilities:

  • Inspect lanyards and harnesses before use
  • Ensure proper ventilation in enclosed spaces
  • Protect against UV radiation during welding or burning

Required Safety Equipment

All workers must wear the following PPE at all times:

  • Hard Hat
  • Safety Glasses
  • Ear Plugs
  • Safety-Toed Shoes

Respirators and fall protection must be worn when working in areas requiring additional protection.


Standard Practice at Patti Marine

Pipefitter
Type: Full-time   |   Hours: 40 hrs/week (overtime as required with 30 minutes unpaid lunchbreak)

Job Summary

Skilled tradesmen who performs the work of developing and laying out, fitting, bolting up, assembling and installing pipe when used to form a part of an assembly in connection with ship construction, alteration, and repair specified by blueprints, work orders, or instructions from supervisor or management. In some cases and when the job requires assistance, a tacker helper will assist the pipefitter. The pipefitter is responsible for building and/or repairing the complete piping systems in a metal ship. The pipefitter has the primary responsibility for manufacturing and installing interior and exterior components such as: Foundations, Hawse Pipes, Ladders, Mast, Racks, Railing, Sea Chest, Stanchions, Stowages, Tanks, Trunks, Yardarms, and Pipe spools, associated pumps, valves and other components which form the complete Ships’ systems. The Pipefitter repairs and/or removes damage ship piping systems and prepares surfaces for welding, burning, and lays out holes for drilling. This work is accomplished using miscellaneous hand and power tools. The Pipefitter may also be required to perform as a roll operator, punch operator, shear operator, track burner, drill and saw operator. The Pipefitter may also have to arrange for staging, crane service, ventilation, lighting, and support services (air, electricity, and water). The above description is general in nature. A Pipefitter may be required to perform additional duties not specifically described.

Physical Demands: Primarily involves standing and walking, and carrying on a constant basis while preparing to complete the assigned job. The tacker will have to carry a 50’ welding line, when coiled, can weigh up to 45 pounds. Multiple lines may need to be carried for distances within the working area. The number of times this function is performed in a given day will vary considerably; however, a typical day might involve moving to multiple work areas.

Essential Function: Identify and locate specific components, pipe stock, pumps, etc. to accomplish the assigned daily tasks.

Transportation: It is the responsibility of each individual to provide or arrange his or her own transportation to and from the shipyard.
